I think it's only fitting that my first review here be for my all-time favorite movie of all-time. (notice it's so badass that I even squeezed the words 'all-time' into that sentence twice!). Yes, ALIENS. I guess I''m not that unique. It seems every party I go to I meet at least one person who agrees with me. Mind you, not that I walk around interrupting conversations to interject and ask people what their favorite movie is. No, I have a form I hand out at the beginning of the party like a ballot. It's much more thorough and people have a tendency to be more honest.

Ammunition, Grenades and a Pocket Protector!?

For the past few weeks now, I've seen the image of a pocket protector being tucked into a top pocket. I woke up in a cold sweat the other night thinking about it. I felt it like a phantom, resting against my chest when I'd go out wearing a shirt with a pocket on the chest. I even accosted one of the salesman at Geek Squad the other day, when he smirked at my dilemma and responded back with a snarky comment.

I knew this image fit into a suit-up scene... but which one?

The Prototype Suit-Up Scene

This suit-up scene is so epic, I don't even know where to begin.

First off, I'd like to say that this is to me, the prototype suit-up scene. In fact, this is the suit-up scene that inspired me to create this site. As a kid, Commando was easily one of my favorite movies. This is Schwarzenegger at his best. Everything about his character, John Matrix, is what a growing boy wants to be.

Point Break is an awesome movie. In fact, it is in my opinion, Keanu Reeves' best work. Reeves is given the opportunity to shine in his portrayal of Ex-College Football star turned FBI agent, Johnny Utah. Reeves is sometimes criticized for his wooden performances, thankfully his role as Utah not only benefits from it but also requires it. But it doesn't end there...

"In 19 minutes this area's gonna be a cloud of vapor the size of Nebraska."

*Disclaimer of Awesomeness: Not only does 'Aliens' have TWO suit-up scenes -- the locker room suit-up scene in the film was my first review here for the site -- it actually has two and a half. Shit, call it three! Three goddamn suit-up scenes in one movie! It's no wonder this is my favorite film of all time. So what is this double-banger suit-up scene I refer to?

When Ripley goes back for Newt, of course!

Striped Socks & Hot Pockets

Of all movies to have a suit-up, “Juno” isn’t the first to come to mind. After catching the tail-end of an “Arrested Development” episode, I started doing this subconscious thing where I count-out how many films I know an actor has been in by twitching my fingers one at a time, starting with the left pinky. Three movies into Michael Cera I get to “Juno”. At that point the image I have filed in my head for his character is the shot where he’s standing on the porch of his house in his track gear, Hot Pocket in hand.

The Slow-burning Suit-up

It's a slow-burner, "The Order"; a well-told tale of religious intrigue, sadist sects, and sin-eating. It's one of those old-fashioned, 60/70’s-style horror pieces where you really have to pay attention; where the pacing is precise and the action and gore and bare skin are absolutely minimal. Going into this one, knowing a little something about the subject matter helps you to become involved enough with the story to care where it goes and to grasp the material it encroaches... and that’s is where our dilemma with “The Order” begins.
