Ammunition, Grenades and a Pocket Protector!?

For the past few weeks now, I've seen the image of a pocket protector being tucked into a top pocket. I woke up in a cold sweat the other night thinking about it. I felt it like a phantom, resting against my chest when I'd go out wearing a shirt with a pocket on the chest. I even accosted one of the salesman at Geek Squad the other day, when he smirked at my dilemma and responded back with a snarky comment.

I knew this image fit into a suit-up scene... but which one?

Who Knew Butchers Were So Bad Ass?

When you think of your local butcher you probably think of a fat italian guy with a stained apron behind the counter of a small counter, cutting up meat. In the case of Leon in The Midnight Meat Train, we see the wimpiest man become the baddest butcher of all... the human butcher.

Walking into the cold dirty meat packing warehouse, where his enemy has been working for so long, Leon (Bradley Cooper) finds his tools, and almost instinctively knows how to use them and wear them, despite being a vegetarian his whole life.

Suiting up to blow your brains out

Rob Reiner's 'A Few Good Men' is one of those films I've seen probably over thirty times. Not because it's a personal favorite. But because it seems to always be playing on TV. That's not such a bad thing. It's a good film with some intense court room scenes. It's also got Tom in full "Cruise Control". (you'll hear more about this in future reviews). But, lo and behold, it also has a suit-up scene.

I think my review title alone was reason to do a write-up on 'The Last Samurai'. Love him or hate him, Tom Cruise has led a dominant career in some very kick ass movies. He's one of those actors that seems like he can do anything. I picture his agent going to toss a script into the trash, and Cruise going, "Wait. What is that one about" The Agent replies, "Tom, trust me on this one. You play a priest who joins and then leads an Olympic bob-sledding team. It's ridiculous. We wouldn't be able to make it work."

To which Cruise responds, "Oh, we'll make it work..."

Yes, like 'Aliens', 'The Two Towers' also contains two suit-up scenes. But unlike 'Aliens', the two scenes almost bookend each other. Yet they each mean very different things to the characters in them.

With King Theoden's suit-up, we are seeing a man reclaim what he once was. He's suiting up to become king again, after long years of withering away under the spell of the white wizard Saruman and the poisonous words of despair from Grima Wormtongue.

Just like New York, huh?

Snake’s back.

John Carpenter’s Escape from New York is one of the greatest movies ever made, hands down. You’ve got post-apocalyptic destruction, intense action sequences, and a bad ass in an eye patch that goes by the name of Snake (and sometimes Plissken, if you can catch him on a good day).

In 1996, when I first saw the trailer for the sequel to this sci-fi/action classic in which our eye patch rocking anti-hero was back, this time to escape from Los Angeles of all places, without hesitation, I pissed my pants.

Then the movie came out and...it was OK.

I find myself in a tough predicament with 'Steel Dawn.' A conundrum really. Shit, maybe even a pickle. You see, I have not actually "watched" this film. I had to force myself to even stomach fast-forwarding through the damn thing. But I'm a huge Patrick Swayze fan. Let me repeat that for all you haters:

So it all starts with a naked man. Our villain, Woo-jin, played pitch-perfect by Ji-tae Yu, he steps out of a shower bare-assed. Right at the 01:30:12 mark. Please, please, please note the tramp stamp; get a good long look at it. It's drawn right down into his crack. Seriously; it's not just the ladies that rock the L.B.T. nowadays. The lower back tattoo is officially unisex. Like a pair of Converse All Stars or t-shirts. The color pink.
